About Bob

bobtwitter11Bob Cargill (who was named the New England Direct Marketing Association’s “Direct Marketer of the Year” for 2009) is an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial copywriter, creative director and social media marketing consultant. His forte is helping to attract new customers and raise funds for both commercial and nonprofit organizations (agency or client side) through seamlessly coordinated creative team efforts. But he also enjoys his role as an industry “commentator,” writing and speaking—whenever and wherever the opportunity presents itself—about new marketing trends, developments, topics and issues.

A New Marketing Commentator (which he began writing in February of 2004), was the first blog ever to be honored with an award — a Gold — from the New England Direct Marketing Association (NEDMA) at its 25th Annual Awards for Creative Excellence on April 6, 2006.

With more than 20 years of experience as a marketing professional, Bob has received over 40 awards for his work, including a Silver award for Best Copywriting from the New England Direct Marketing Association, plus the Axel Andersson Award for direct mail excellence from the publication, Inside Direct Mail.

During the course of his career, Bob has held key creative positions at a number of leading organizations, including VistaPrint, Yellowfin Direct Marketing, L.W. Robbins Associates, Sullivan Creative, CPS Direct, Warner Bros. Publications and RCA Direct Marketing. He also owned and operated his own agency, Cargill Creative, for seven years in the 1990s.

Bob is a frequent speaker at seminars, schools and industry events—and has been quoted or published on the subjects of direct marketing, copywriting and blogging in numerous publications, including The New York Times, DIRECT Magazine, The ClickZ Network, The DMA Bottom Line, The Boston Business Journal, The Providence Journal, the MetroWest Daily News, The Sudbury Town Crier, DM NEWS and NEDMA NEWS.

Bob is a Past President of the New England Direct Marketing Association (’99–’00), a Past President of two Toastmasters clubs and a graduate of the MetroWest Leadership Academy. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and a Master of Science degree from Brooklyn College in New York. He has run 12 marathons (six for charity) and several hundred road races, including the Mount Washington Road Race, a seven-mile run up the tallest peak in New England, three times. Bob resides with his wife and children in Sudbury, MA.
