Career Highlights

Copywriter and Creative Director. Written and/or managed the creative development of projects that have been honored with dozens of awards for creative excellence and outstanding results, including Best of Show and a Silver award for Best Copywriting from the New England Direct Marketing Association, plus the coveted Axel Andersson Award for direct mail excellence from the publication, Inside Direct Mail.

Blogger. Founded and authored the award-winning A New Marketing Commentator, a 60,000+-word blog on direct marketing, advertising and fundraising which was cited dozens of times in both print publications (e.g., The New York Times, DM NEWS, etc.) and online (e.g., The DMA Bottom Line, PR Thoughts, Digital Bulletin, etc.).

Manager. Managed a department of nine creative professionals (plus a team of freelancers and independent contractors) who were responsible for the development of several hundred direct mail fundraising packages annually for an agency that was honored at the 2004 and 2003 NEDMA Awards for Creative Excellence with a total of 26 awards, including Best of Show in 2003.

Entrepreneur. Founded and ran own small advertising agency for seven years (successfully completing over 500 projects), taking full responsibility for new business development, public relations, copywriting, creative direction and management of all creative resources.

Author and Commentator. Quoted or published on the subjects of direct marketing, copywriting and blogging in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Boston Business Journal, the Providence Journal, DIRECT Magazine, The ClickZ Network, The DMA Bottom Line, DM NEWS and NEDMA NEWS.

Drawn on my experience as a Toastmaster (5+ years, including stints as President of two different clubs in ’91 and ’98) to lead dozens of seminars and speak countless times on copywriting, creative direction and direct marketing before anywhere from 25 – 250 people at industry-related events throughout the country as well as for private clients.
